Ever since Pillow Fight San Jose started we've have been exploring the public space in Downtown San Jose. We have found out a lot about the areas that DTSJ has to offer these large flash mob type of events. We have chosen Camera 12 Plaza with purpose.

Here are some other things we've learned about pillowfighting in SJ. Chavez Park is an awesome central well known place but it has lots of grass which makes it difficult to pick up feathers. City Hall Plaza is a great iconic setting and we received the most media attention that year. City Hall Plaza would be a perfect setting if its wasn't so big. At our grass roots level, it's too spread out for us to feel that critical mass of excitement. At times it made it feel like there wasn't a big crowd when hundreds showed up.

Circle Palms was a beautiful scene and provided a nice stage for this friendly fight. About 50 people lied on the ground with each other and pretended sleeping with the pillows. They loved it that much. The downfall of Circle palms was that the feathers crept into the dirt the trees were planted in and the security guard gave us a hassle about being there and we didn't want any enemies.

SJ Rep was by far the best location, IMO. It was cemented with iconic structures surrounding it. It was in a central well known area open so that random strangers were able to partake in it. Lots of reasons to continue there.

The awesome installment of the shipping containers on the SJ Rep Plaza encouraged us to keep looking this year. Across the street we found this interesting place, the Paseo Path between 1st and 2nd street. One of the main interests of this place was clean up. The buildings provided a box like setting to help contain the mess and energy. The tighter space would lead to the feeling of the large crowd that we are. Also, we figured the feathers would remain manageable and easy to clean within this area. The potential downfalls of the area are the lack of sun and security but Camera 12 is closed at this time and there are several empty storefronts.

We wanted to let you know that we put thought into taking care of our city. The City that allows of a bit of silly fun as long as we clean up and act responsible.
